Start with lug-to-lug length

The lugs are the parts of the case that connect to the bracelet or strap. Lug-to-lug length is the distance from the lug tips above the dial to the tips below it.

This length helps you judge whether the ends of the watch will sit within the width of the wrist or hang over its edges. Case diameter measures the width of the case, so it cannot tell you that on its own.

Weight changes how the gift feels

Compare with the watch they wear most often. A kitchen scale can help you weigh it with its bracelet attached. The weights above are approximate; removing links during bracelet sizing also reduces the weight.

Use their current watch to keep the surprise
