How to Care for Your Frosted Finish Watch

The frosted finish is one of Paul Rich's most distinctive design elements. Inspired by the haute joaillerie technique of "Florentine finishing," our process applies micro-fine diamond dust to the case and bracelet, creating a textured surface that catches and scatters light in every direction. Here is how to keep it looking its best.

What Is the Frosted Finish?

Our frosted finish is created by treating the stainless steel surface with diamond dust particles. The result is a texture that sits between matte and polished — it does not reflect light in a single direction like a polished surface, nor does it absorb it like a brushed one. Instead, it creates thousands of tiny points of light across the entire watch, giving it a sparkling, ice-like appearance.

Daily Wear Tips

• Wear it. The frosted finish is remarkably durable. It is designed for everyday wear, not just special occasions. The texture actually hides minor scratches better than a polished finish.
• Rotate your wrist stack. If you wear bracelets alongside your watch, be aware that metal-on-metal contact can cause micro-scratches on any finish over time. This is cosmetic and does not affect the watch's function.
• Avoid abrasive surfaces. Sliding your watch across concrete, granite, or other hard rough surfaces can damage any watch finish.

Cleaning Your Frosted Watch

The textured surface of a frosted finish can trap dust and skin oils in its micro-grooves. Regular cleaning keeps it sparkling:

1. Rinse under lukewarm water. The 5 ATM water resistance means this is perfectly safe.
2. Use a soft-bristle brush. A clean toothbrush works perfectly. Gently brush the case, bracelet links, and between the lugs where dirt accumulates.
3. Mild soap if needed. A drop of mild dish soap helps cut through oils. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
4. Dry with a soft cloth. Pat dry with a microfibre cloth. Avoid paper towels, which can leave lint in the texture.

Storage

• Use the original box or a watch roll with a soft interior. This prevents the frosted surface from rubbing against other hard objects.
• Avoid extreme heat. Do not leave your watch in direct sunlight for extended periods (e.g., on a car dashboard). Prolonged UV exposure can affect the finish over time.
• Keep it dry when stored. If you've been swimming, dry the watch thoroughly before putting it away.

What About Scratches?

The frosted texture is more forgiving than a high-polish finish when it comes to minor scratches. Small marks tend to blend into the texture rather than standing out.
